Electronics maker Apple expects to sell 3.5 million iPhones in Russia in the next two years, according to market sources familiar with new deals being struck by Russian carriers. Despite no official availability, up to 600,000 of the popular mobile devices have already flooded into Russia through unauthorized sales; now, at least two carriers have signed an official framework agreement with the manufacturer and one more deal is expected next week.

HP Launches 2133 Mini-Note PC, Disappoints With Processor Selection
HP swings for the fences with its 2133 Mini-Note PC When ASUS launched its Eee PC 401 4G last year, not many people knew where the tiny $399 device would take the industry. Within months, ASUS flanked its original 4G model with the $299 2G model and the $499 8G model. As sales skyrocketed, ASUS dropped another bombshell on potential customers with the announcement of its second generation Eee PC 900 with a larger, 8.9" display which calmed the fears of some of those upset over the original unit’s 7" display. ASUS Eee PC 900 Coming May 12 With $549 Price Tag
When ASUS launched the original Eee PC 701 4G in late 2007, the notebook was praised for its relatively low price, respectable performance for an inexpensive notebook due to its internal solid-state drive (SSD), and compact dimensions/weight. ASUS announced its second generation model in early March along with a few notable upgrades to its screen and storage capacity. Unfortunately, those upgrades come at a price that pushes the Eee PC 900 squarely into an even higher price bracket. When the Eee PC 900 launches on May 12 in the United States, it will be priced at $549 for both Linux and Windows XP versions. The Linux version of the Eee PC will come with a 4GB SSD + an additional 16GB internal flash module for a total of 20GB of storage space. The Windows XP model -- due to the licensing fees associated with Windows -- will only feature an internal flash module of 8GB leaving it with just 12GB of total storage space. The other notable upgrades for the second generation Eee PC include the larger, 8.9" 1024x600 display, 1GB of DDR2 memory, Multi-Touch trackpad, and the inclusion of a 1.3 MP webcam (up from 0.3 MP). New attack code crashes Windows XP and Vista
Security researchers have released attack code that will crash Windows XP and Vista PCs that are susceptible to a recently patched bug in the operating system. The code was released yesterday to security professionals who use Immunity's Canvas computer security testing software. It causes the Windows system to crash but does not let the attacker run malicious software on the victim's system. It is not available to the general public.

As I tested the public beta release of Vista SP1, I noticed the update crippled a popular DVD cracking program called DVD43. DVD43 is a free utility that disables a DVD's Content Scramble System (CSS) copy protection technology. Once a DVD's copy protection is disabled, you can copy its content using one of several third-party programs. You may be using DVD43 and not realize it, because it often is the engine of other ripping programs.

Samsung Cranks Out 128GB MLC SSD
Two months ago, Samsung announced its new SATA II-based 64GB solid-state disk (SSD). The 64GB SSD promised read speeds of 120MB/sec and write speeds of 100MB/sec. Today, Samsung is doubling the capacity of its latest SATA II SSD offering to 128GB. Instead of relying on single-level cell (SLC) NAND flash memory, the new 128GB offering makes use of multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash. Unfortunately, performance dropped with the new 128 SSD -- read speeds are down to 100MB/sec while write speeds hover at 70MB/sec. “Our SSD can be used by the widest range of corporate notebooks, particularly where additional storage is needed beyond what is typical in most business applications,” said Jim Elliott, director of flash memory marketing for Samsung Semiconductor. Samsung's new 128GB SSD pales in comparison to BiTMICRO's massive 832GB SSD which was recently announced. Samsung, however, has the advantage when it comes to availability and pricing. Samsung's 128GB SSD will be available in the first half of 2008 with pricing of at least a couple thousand dollars. BiTMICRO's 832GB SSD, on the other hand, won't be mass produced until the latter half of 2008 and will likes cost tens of thousands of dollars.

First Nvidia GeForce 9800GX2 Pics
The first pictures of what seems to be the GeForce 9800GX2 have just popped up on the web.
We now have a good idea of what the card looks like. We know that the 9800GX2 has 2 printed circuit boards (PCBs), as did the 7950GX2 in its time, two graphics processing units (GPUs) using 65 nm nodes (most likely G92s with 128 stream processors), 1 GB of memory (512 MB for each GPU) and two DVI outputs. We don't know yet if the GeForce 9800GX2, which is supposed to be 30% faster than the 8800 Ultra, will support Quad SLI configurations. The expected price: around $449 US. Expected announcement date: February 14, 2008.
